Moving Checklist

ANYTIME:

• Arrange to have your mail forwarded by Canada Post

• Arrange for a moving truck/service (ask me for a Client Resources Handout)

• Book Freight Elevator (Condos)

• Update Property Management with Closing Date (Condos)

• Register at new schools

• Start purging

• Start collecting boxes for moving

1 MONTH BEFORE:

• Have a garage sale or donate whatever you’re not packing

• Schedule internet, alarm service, etc. at the new location

3 WEEKS BEFORE:

• Create a packing kit:

  • Clear plastic bags

  • Packing tape

  • Sharpie Markers

  • Scissors

  • Newspaper

• Purchase additional boxes and moving supplies

• Arrange for utilities and services at new location

2 WEEKS BEFORE:

• Safely dispose of hazardous waste

• Start Packing

• Arrange for child and pet care during the move

1 WEEK BEFORE:

•  Pack a special bag/box with essentials you will need upon arrival 

•  Stop Grocery Shopping

1 DAY BEFORE:

• Confirm arrangements with moving company

• Finish packing

MOVING DAY:

• Take your essentials with you

• Leave keys in lockbox for new owners (if applicable)

• Ensure keys to new place are on your keyring or access code is handy

• Do a final walk through

AFTER MOVING:

• Send change of address notices
